801.13 Cleanouts.

MC § 801.13

Factory-built chimneys and vents shall be provided with a cleanout opening or access door at the base of the chimney or vent installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Masonry and metal chimneys shall be provided with a cleanout opening having a minimum height of 6 inches (152.4 mm). The upper edge of the opening shall be located not less than 6 inches (152.4 mm) below the lowest chimney inlet opening. The cleanout shall be provided with a tight-fitting, noncombustible cover of a minimum size of 8 inches by 8 inches (203.2 mm by 203.2 mm). Cleanouts shall comply with the requirements of the New York City Air Pollution Control Code. Exception: Cleanouts shall not be required for chimney flues serving masonry fireplaces, if such flues are provided with access through the fireplace opening.
