409.5.1 Located within the same room.

FGC § 409.5.1

The shutoff valve shall be located in the same room as the appliance. The shutoff valve shall be within 6 feet (1828.8 mm) of the appliance, and shall be installed upstream of the union, connector or quick disconnect device it serves. Such shutoff valves shall be provided with access and located not more than 60 inches (1524 mm) above the finished floor. Appliance shutoff valves located in the firebox of a fireplace shall be installed in accordance with the appliance manufacturer's instructions. Where the shutoff valve is located in the firebox, a remote shutoff valve shall also be provided. Exception: Shutoff valves may be located more than 60 inches (1524 mm) above the finished floor where the gas connection to the appliance is more than 60 inches (1524 mm) above the finished floor.
