718.4.3 Other groups.

BC § 718.4.3

Draftstopping shall be installed in attics and concealed roof spaces, such that any horizontal area does not exceed 3,000 square feet (278.7 m 2 ). Exceptions: 1. Draftstopping is not required in buildings equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1.

2.Draftstopping shall not be required where the structural members within the concealed attic space are individually protected on all sides for their full length with materials having the required fire-resistance rating.

3.Where laminated wood I-joist assemblies are used, the space between the ceiling and the floor or roof above shall be divided into approximately equal areas not greater than 500 square feet (46.5 m 2 ).
