In 1-hour fire-resistance-rated floor/ceiling assemblies, the ceiling membrane is not required to be installed over crawl spaces that are not intended for occupancy or storage and that are less than 24 inches (609.6 mm) in height. Where the ceiling membrane is not provided, occupancy or storage is not permitted in the crawl space.
