409.2.1 Staffing.

FC § 409.2.1

In Group I-3 occupancies, staff trained in emergency preparedness procedures shall be in the building at all times, and within three floors or 300 feet (91440 mm) horizontal distance of the access door of each resident housing area. Keys necessary for unlocking doors installed in a means of egress shall be individually identifiable by both touch and sight. When movement of occupants from one smoke compartment to another or egress from the building is impeded by staff-controlled manual releases, the staff responsible for controlling such movement or egress must be continuously available to initiate emergency procedures within 2 minutes of an alarm. Exception: Staff shall not be required to be located within three floors or 300 feet (91440 mm) of areas in which all locks may be unlocked automatically in accordance with Section 408.4 of the Building Code.
