FC § 2407.2

A space of at least twice the maximum potential sparking distance shall be maintained between the workpiece being painted or deteared and any electrodes, electrostatic atomizing heads or conductors. Exception: Such distance is not required to be maintained between workpieces and portable electrostatic spray-finishing equipment listed for use in Class I, Division 1 locations.
