3305.3.1.2.1 Use of existing structures to support vertical or lateral loads.
BC § 3305.3.1.2.1
The use of existing structures to support vertical or lateral loads imposed by concrete construction operations shall require an evaluation by a registered design professional of the adequacy of the existing structure to support the loads to be imposed. The registered design professional shall prepare design drawings documenting the findings of the evaluation, indicate the location of formwork elements, and the interface between the formwork and the existing structure. The placement of concrete against a stay form adjacent to an existing structure, against insulation in a seismic gap, or against other elements that have the potential to transfer loads to an existing structure shall be assumed to impose a load on an existing structure, and shall always require an evaluation by a registered design professional in accordance with the requirements of this section. Where the evaluation determines the use of such elements does not impose a load, as documented on design drawings in accordance with this section, the requirement set forth in Item 8 of Section 3305.3.2.1 shall not apply.
