What is NYC BC § 3001.11.1?

Quick Answer

This section permits elevator cabs installed in existing shafts to be smaller than the requirements of the chapter, provided it is necessary to fit the existing shaft. However, if the entire building must be accessible, an existing shaft must be enlarged or a new shaft constructed to comply with accessibility standards. Applies to building owners managing existing elevator installations.
