3.0 REFERENCE STANDARDS

BC § 3.0

3.1 The equipment shall comply with all applicable requirements of the following standards and codes: 3.1.1 Hermetic and open-drive chilling units. A. ANSI B9.1 Safety Code for Mechanical Refrigeration. B. ANSI B144.1 (UL 465) Standard for Safety, Central Cooling Air Conditioners. 3.1.2 Open-drive chilling units. A. Electric motor drive: ANSI C51.1 (NEMA Publication MG 2) Safety Standard for Construction and Guide for Selection, Installation and Use of Electric Motors and Generators. B. Steam turbine drive: NEMA Publication SM 21 Multistage Steam Turbines for Mechanical Drive Service of NEMA Publication SM 22 Single Stage Turbines for Mechanical Drive Service. C. Gas turbine drive: ANSI B176.1 (NFPA No. 37) Installation and Use of Stationary Combustion Engines and Gas Turbines. D. Gas or Diesel Engine drive: ANSI B176.1 (NFPA No. 37) Installation and Use of Stationary Combustion Engines and Gas Turbines. 3.2 Where conflicting requirements might occur between ANSI B9.1 and ANSI B144.1, the requirements of ANSI B9.1 shall govern. 3.3 Where conflicting requirements might occur between ANSI C51.1 and ANSI B144.1, the requirements of ANSI C51.1 shall govern. 3.4 For interpretive and supplemental information necessary to adapt ANSI B144.1 (UL 465) requirements to mechanical liquid chilling packages, refer to Section 6.
