BC § 1809.5.8.1.1

The thickness of foundation walls shall not be less than the thickness of the wall supported, except that foundation walls of at least 8 inch (203.2 mm) nominal width are permitted to support brick-veneered frame walls and 10 inch wide (254 mm) cavity walls.
