BC § 1029.18

Standing spaces may be permitted within assembly spaces provided each standee has a minimum of 5 square feet (0.47 m 2 ) of occupiable floor space. Standing spaces shall not encroach on the required exit facilities and shall be separated from the space to be left clear for passage.
