§ 6-08 Purpose.

RCNY § 6-08

(a)The purpose of restrictive housing is to: (1) Separate from the general population a person in custody in response to the person's recent commission of an offense, which significantly threatens the safety and security of other people in custody and staff.

(2)Hold incarcerated individuals accountable for their misconduct through swift, certain, fair, and transparent processes.

(3)Promote prosocial behavior and progression back to general population through utilization of positive incentives, case management services, individual behavior support plans, and individualized evidence-based programming.

(4)Provide people in custody with meaningful opportunities to socially engage with others and pursue productive activities. (Added City Record 6/9/2021, eff. 7/9/2021; amended City Record 6/28/2024, eff. 7/28/2024)
