406.6.2.1.1 Existing gas piping.

FGC § 406.6.2.1.1

Any gas piping system or part thereof that has been previously energized and has been shut down shall be required to obtain a certificate of approval of gas installation for all appliances served by the affected gas meter(s) prior to the reestablishment of gas into such system. Exception: When an existing gas appliance is replaced and no gas piping is replaced upstream of the existing appliance shutoff valve and not more than 6 feet (1828.8 mm) of pipe is installed or replaced downstream of the existing appliance shutoff valve, a certificate of approval of gas installation shall not be required to energize such pipe or replacement appliance.
